Shoots

Proof of directing:

Shoot 1 (Bedroom scene):

This shoot went on from 12 am to 5 pm on the 7th of December. Our first difficulty was lighting were we had to make it ourselves by covering the windows to get rid of the natural light as it didn't look right for our scene, then we had to agree on a fake lighting made with LED lights. We then had to change the outfit slightly from what we imagined from a short skirt to a pair of jeans as the skirt was too short for the sitting on the bed portion of the scene. In the end the jeans did not make that much of a difference and gave the same feeling as the skirt. The makeup look some time as well and we had to look up videos tutorials for fake crying makeup on YouTube which turned out well. The biggest challenge was ripping the posters off the wall in the transition from good to bad girl in one go, we wanted to film from two angles in one go so that we could have multiple shots without having to put the then crumpled posters back up which wouldn't look as realistic and this took some pre thought. In the last bit of filming we also changed the ending of the scene to a fade as a swipe transition which we were originally intending to do was too difficult to get exactly as we wanted. We found that out planning did make a big difference in how smooth the actual filming went as the shot list we had made earlier was very useful. The mise-en-scene ended up being my favorite part of the scene as i think it will look really good in post production.

Shoot 2 (Cake scene):

This shoot went generally very well, we all contributed to the mise-en-scene successfully. something difficult was deciding on how big the jump would be from the first scene to this scene but we ended up settling on a little bit grungy makeup with dark clothes. the mise-en-scene was a bit difficult to control as the balloons in the background would occasionally fall however it wasn't much of an issue. Something we decided on in the moment was to scrap the cake stabbing shot which we originally thought was going to be a big part of the scene but in the end didn't seem necessary when we looked at how many other striking shots we had, such as the cupcake being smushed. In order for the cupcake shot to be as close to perfect as possible i made multiple U cupcakes to be able to redo the shot multiple times. Lighting was a bit of an issue in this shoot as well as the lighting was coming from behind the camera so we had to be careful not to get the shadow of the camera in the shot which is why we will end up doing edited zoom ins instead of real ones because the shadows were too much of a hassle. Shooting the tv portion o the scene went very well as we had a clear idea of what we waned it to look like, the only issue being making the kick look realistic without actually damaging the tv.

Shoot 3 (Bathroom scene):

The biggest difficulty in this shoot was gathering the mise-en-scene as we had a slip up with getting the right liquid to dump on "Olivia", Ambre and I ended up settling on a red juice which would also signify blood which helped as that part of the scene was based of the famous horror movie "Carrie". It was essential for us to film in our primary building bathrooms as they were much bigger than the ones in our secondary school but this meant we needed supervision and to do it after school so we could have it to ourselves which took a lot of preparation. The actual filming went smoothly as we didn't make many changes to our sample scene. We ended up pouring the drink on Ambre (Olivia) twice as the first time didn't look good which wan't ideal however it wasn't obvious that she was already a bit wet the second time we filmed the spill. Cleaning did end up taking a good 15 minutes rushed which was a bit longer than usual as we needed to make sure the floors weren't sticky from the juice.

Shoot 4 (Performance scene):

For this shoot we filmed in a graffiti are in Merl where we would be aloud to graffiti, the only issue with the location was getting all the Guitar Hero instruments to the set however we ended up getting help from one of our parents to transport the instruments. Generally the location worked really well for us, there were a lot of interesting graffiti backgrounds for us to film in front of which made for very interesting visuals and there weren't too many other people around to distract us. It was quite cold as its late December but it wasn't too bad. The clothes ended up being very close to what we envisioned which was good and gave a cool band look. A filming issue was that we needed a lot of shots with all three of us which meant that there wasn't lots of handheld shots as none of us were available to film however we did manage to get a lot of shot variety. The actual graffiti part went well, it was a little difficult to get the cans to work but when we figured it out it looked good. We also got a lot of good photos to use for the digipak and social media.
