Audience

Our primary audience:

This pie chart shows the age range we had for the survey. Our largest age group was 18-24 followed by 13-17 year olds. There were 27 responses.
We had a majority of females taking this survey.
More than 50% of the responses had heard of the Dark Pop genre.
This question asked if the people taking our survey had listened to any of these Dark Pop artists. We found that only 11.3% (3/27) had not heard of any of the artists further proving that most people are fairly familiar with popular dark pop artists.
For this question we attached a picture or Olivia Rodrigo asking "Who is this?". 20/27 responses knew who she was although some are written differently than others (Olivia Rodriguez, olivia rodrigo, olivia Rodrigo). This is good as it shows that most people know who she is as we suspected.
Following the question above we asked what people thought her main audience age was. 59.3% selected 18-24 being the main age group and 37 selected 13-17. This shows us what her Primary and secondary audience most likely is.
100% then selected that the believed her main audience gender was female. This further helps us narrow down our primary audience.
For this question we attached a picture of Elvis Costello and again asked "Who is this?". Only 7/27 knew who it was. This could make sense as the majority of the people taking this survey would not be his target audience as he was most popular throughout the late 70s to 80s.
Our next question was asking what they thought his main audience age range would be with 81.5% of people responding with the oldest option of 35+ which was expected.
Next we asked what they thought Elvis Costello's main audience gender was and 92.3 selected male.
More than half said they had watched some of these films which is good because we have a scene where lots of these movies posters on the wall.
Above this post we had a picture of Paramours "Misery Business" and asked if anyone recognised the picture. 12/27 responses were some form of Misery Business, Paramore, Misery Business, Paramour! This is good to know because our video took a lot of inspiration from that video.
This question was asking about the main age range for the Misery Business picture above. 51% selected 25-35 which we were expecting as that is how old the teenagers who watched the video when it came out would be now.
81% selected female for the main audiences gender for that video.
Above this we attached two screenshots from our video. 48.1% selected 13-17 as the age range with 18-24 being a close second with 44.4%.
100% identified the main audiences gender as female.
70.4% said after seeing the screenshots that were interested in this kind of content.

From this audience survey we can see that our most likely primary audience is 13-24 as it was very close from the question asking what the participants of the survey thought our main audience age would be from looking at the screenshots we provided. We also can tell that the target audience gender is female with 100% of participants giving this as their answer (granted this is solely off of a few screen shots but it does give us a good idea).

Secondary audience:
From this survey we can see that our secondary audience is likely to be under 13, 35+ year olds and males as they were the least chosen main age groups and genders for our questions asking what age group/gender Olivia Rodrigos and Paramore's videos were most likely to attract which is something that our primary audience would likely know about.

Elvis Costello:
In the second verse of Brutal during the cake scene there is a (fake) cameo from Elvis Costello. The reason why we added this is because the song Brutal has a similar chord sequence to Elvis Costellos 1978 hit song 'Pump It Up', and has even been called a 'direct lift'. Due to this and the fact that older audiences would be likely to spot the similarity we took inspiration from the music video of 'Pump It Up' so when the lyrics say 'enjoy your youth' we went to a shot of 'Elvis Costello' on an old tv saying it as if he were giving advise to our Olivia Rodrigo.

Our Elvis:
Our Inspiration:

Mise-en-scene:
Throughout the video we took special care to include at least one nod to an older audience through mise-en-scene. The way we chose to show this is the TV used when we have the Elvis Costello cameo, we used a tv commonly used in the early 2000s so give a sense of nostalgia to an older audience that used these types of TVs for a long time. (seen above)

digipak:                                                                                                  Our main inspiration for the digipak was P!nk's digipak from the early 2000s featuring lots of graffiti and an edgy vibe shown with wardrobe and makeup.

vinyl:
On my social media apart from promoting a digipak I made a vinyl and promoted it, this will also bring a sense of nostalgia to an older audience as that is when they were most popular. This will also appeal to our other secondary audience of under 13-year-olds as vinyls have become more popular with teens in the recent years.

Posters:
Shown primarily in the opening scene and first verse of Brutal, a way we showed Olivia's transition from being a 'good girl' to a 'bad girl' was through the use of posters. The inclusion of popular old movies such as legally blond, mean girls, clueless and the craft which were all released from 1990s - early 2000s were all meant to give nostalgia to an older audience and were also there to help this audience relate to our protagonist of the video (Olivia).
